Late last night, club founders named Eddie Way as the new AFC Olympia Captain on and off the pitch. This comes just a week after the club was founded and on the eve of debut match against AFC Menfonza in the Premiership. Way was one of the first to join the club with previous contact with founders at St. Andrews in Woking.
Co-Founder Chessun had this to say about the appointment:
"With experience in another sport captaining his country, he's the perfect man for the job.
"On the ball he always gives the simple pass, meaning he is a great role model for the lads. This is the philosphy of the cub and it is key that our skipper sets the example which will hopefully help us gain control of matches"
However controversy rose this morning when Way had a few things to say about his new role:
"I'm honoured to be offered the chance to lead the boys out. By far this is the pinnacle of my sporting career so far.
"I'm ashamed to say I won't be available for the last 3 matches of the season due to International duty but I hope the boys will bring back points."
Is he the right appointment? Should AFC have gone with a player who doesn't always turn up? Have your say, join the debate on our Discussion page.
