AFC Olympia continued their winning form in the Premiership this season with a powerful 4-3 win over MK Dongs. The team of: MacRitchie, Frudd, Reid, Chessun, Grey, Ashbolt, Way and Van Nederveen, with the late inclusion of Ward, shrugged off the January chills to start the match strongly.
From the off it was clear Olympia were technically superior. Dongs were confined within their own half for the majority of the game thanks to masterful pressing from the whole team. Frudd kept the opposition on their toes with his incisive running and Ward at sweeper kept the strikers in his back pocket leaving MacRitchie with little to do. The first half yielded only a single goal from a keeping slip up pounced upon by Van Nederveen and we began the second half confident we could close the game out.
A fantastic reaction flick from Eddie Way steered in a powerful shot from the midfield leaving the keeper rooted and the score at 2-0. Unaccountably, a lapse in concentration allowed the Dongs to score two quick goals and then finally take the lead with only 4 minutes to go.
AFC piled up the pressure on MK Dongs' keeper and truly showed heart to fight back with a goal from Grey, adding another twist to the tale, before Frudd clipped home the winner. Final score 4-3.
AFC now stand 3rd in the table only a point behind leaders Jointing Technologies. The title is theirs for the taking!
