Steadfast Olympia brush off Moleman

On the brisk evening on a late Monday night fixture, AFC Olympia were again battling for a manageable Moleman United victory to secure a 3rd spot in the elite premiership . With the absence of Connor Ward, Jack Grey and minimally injured James Frudd the Olympians were already at a disadvantage going into the game. However, although they stress their dependence on these exceptional players, the team has the resilience and determination to work with whatever resources they have; they went into the game confident of a win.

The game set off and the Olympians struggled to reincorporate the consistency of their performance that they had managed to maintain throughout the season. The opposition proved to have been unexpectedly well organised and prepared as within the first 10 minutes the Olympians were hard hit by two well-deserved goals from the Molemen. However soon enough the Olympians began to string their passes together with a confidence of a top quality side, often counter attacking from the origin of the source Oliver MacRichie, who managed to pick out Eddie Way or even Oliver Van Nederveen. These two alfa-dogs upfront brought a very physical side to the game on Monday night and I speak for the fans and the rest of the team mates, that their work rate is highly regarded. Moments before the break, both teams seemed to be neck and neck in opportunities as unexpectedly the Olympians drew one back with a clinical finish from AFC's very own founder James Chessun. At half time, the score line finished 2-1 not in the Olympians favour.

From the motivated team talk from the boss, the Olympians commenced the start of the second half with the mind-set to clinch a victory. However from the offing the Olympians had lost all composure as the Moleman side, with ease, dribbled through the centre of the park and slotted one past MacRitchie. For it was not the second time the team had gone to sleep. However more importantly the team’s effort never seemed to be diminishing as the Olympian side continued to display their willingness in the game as not long afterwards Eddie Way secured a well-deserved goal from the capabilities of David Reid. JamesFrudd was playing a defensive role tonight, and his composure and assuredness at the back seemed fatal to the chances created. For the rest of the game the Olympians and the opposition played end to end football creating chances for both sides. Credit has to go to Harry Ashbolt who despite coming back from recent injury managed to put a great shift upfront constructing numerous chances that in the end led to goals. The excitement of the game intensified in the closing 10 minutes as Olympia's hero James Frudd managed to score back to back goals to secure a thoroughly well-deserved victory in our penultimate game of the season. Well done boys, a great result over a well-regarded and physical side.
